THE Bendigo and District Aboriginal Corporation will host the Koori Football and Netball carnival for the next two years.
This year’s carnival will be held at Epsom-Huntly Reserve on October 17-18 and is expected to attract 5000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members, with over 25 teams participating.
“For Bendigo to be the host of this carnival is very exciting for the local community,” BDAC chief executive officer Raylene Harradine said.
“BDAC hopes to reinvigorate the event so it becomes a major event that celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and passion for sport and art.
“We look forward to welcoming athletes from across the state in an event that will be colourful, passionate and tightly contested.”
The carnival aims to promote issues such as active lifestyles, getting involved in sport, healthy eating and leadership.
The carnival is currently seeking sponsorship from companies that support the themes.
